MHLC's Hunting Program

Unauthorized hunting is NOT permitted at any of our 23 public preserves. However legacy hunting rights do exist for several hunters at both Holt and (upper) Bozen Kill preserves.  

We will be opening two of our trailless, non-public preserves for white-tailed deer hunting for the 2026 season to a limited number of hunters. This program will be for bow and crossbow only. All hunters that would like to participate must adhere to the following requirements:

• Submit all required paperwork, including a valid NYS photo ID, a signed Rules & Regulations form, and a signed landowner DEC permission form.

• All hunters registered in the program must participate in one stewardship-focused volunteer workday at one of our preserves (this can take place during the season or any time before the start of the next year’s season). This can include trash pick-up, invasive plant removal, boundary marking, and other tasks as needed.
  

Hunters registered in the program will need to utilize the HuntStand app to make reservations for hunting zones within each preserve. Each zone is approximately 15+ acres. Thanks to HuntStand, MHLC will provide codes for a 1-year free Pro subscription for all registered hunters.
