Seeking 3 volunteers to help clear and disperse tree limb debris, direct traffic, and clean up the worksite upon completion. We will be assisting an experienced tree removal volunteer to take down two trees that pose a future threat to cars parked near the preserve entry. Basic physical skills to lift, drag, and pull tree limbs and logs.

Bender Melon Farm Preserve Workday

Help MHLC staff continue our habitat restoration of the Bender Melon Farm! We'll be spending Tuesday afternoons removing invasive vegetation including buckthorn, honeysuckle, bittersweet, and honeysuckle. We need help cutting, clipping, and dragging. This is a great way to blow off steam on a Tuesday afternoon!

Bozen Kill Preserve Workday

9 AM - Noon

(Main parking lot) Seeking 10 volunteers to continue work on the BLUE TRAIL that will connect the stream trail to the upper (Bond Road) trail system. This will entail hiking the stream trail with weed whackers, pick axes, clippers, and chainsaw to clear the debris up a farm road that connects to a new switchback trail created on a previous workday. We will also finish marking the full trail. This work will require hiking, working with hand tools, and using power equipment as needed.

Bennett Hill Workday - Part 1

Monday, September 23, 2024

9 AM - 12 PM

Seeking 8 volunteers to begin a multi-day project to remove a large culvert near the beginning of the main trail and replace it with a fortified trench that will be covered by a new bridge. The work will require digging, lifting and transporting the old culvert to the parking lot, and if time permits, building an erosion.prevention wall within the trench dug out. We will also create and mark a temporary crossing for hikers. We will use shovels and pickaxes for the digging and basic hand tools to build the trench support wall.

Bennett Hill Workday - Part 2

9 AM - 12 PM

Seeking 8 volunteers to finish any work on the trench from the day prior and then begin building a 20' bridge that will cross it. We will be using circular saws and power drills to build the bridge. Lifting and transporting lumber from the parking lot to the work site will also be required. People eager to learn how to build a simple bridge are encouraged to sign up.

Hollyhock Hollow Sanctuary - Bench and Box Building

10 AM - 1 PM

Open to 10 people. We will be building new sign-in boxes and Leopold benches for our preserves. Safe use of power tools will be reviewed and practiced before building the structures using the guidelines provided.
